Ihram Rules for Men vs. Women

The Ihram is not just a garment—it's a spiritual state that reflects humility and equality before Allah. While the core intention is the same for both men and women, there are key differences in rules and attire:

For Men:

Clothing: Two unstitched white pieces—an izar (lower wrap) and rida (upper sheet).

Footwear: No stitched footwear that covers the ankles. Slippers or sandals are preferred.

Headwear: Must keep the head uncovered at all times while in Ihram.

Perfume: Not allowed once the intention is made—on body or clothing.

For Women:

Clothing: Modest, loose-fitting garments (usually abaya). No specific color is mandated, but white is common.

Face Covering: Women should not wear a niqab, but can cover their face loosely with a cloth if needed.

Footwear: Closed shoes are allowed, as long as they are modest and not flashy.

Perfume: Also prohibited after entering the state of Ihram.

Understanding these distinctions not only ensures your Umrah is accepted but also allows you to experience the pilgrimage with greater spiritual focus and confidence.
